Building a brand is never easy—and for Hari Mari, the past 13 years have been full of hard work, patience, and persistence. As founders Jeremy and Lila Stewart reflect on their journey, they can confidently say that the best things in life are often the most challenging.

The Early Days: Learning as They Went

When Hari Mari launched in 2012, Jeremy and Lila were eager to get their brand off the ground. But building a successful company takes time—more time than they expected.

"We were very impatient to get our brand going," Jeremy shared. "And now looking back, we can see that building a brand in this space requires so much patience."

Those early days weren't without struggle. The couple admits that their first flip flop designs were far from perfect. "Honestly, they were embarrassing," Jeremy joked. "But somehow, people still came back and bought from us again. That was amazing."

Despite the learning curve, they kept pushing forward—improving their designs, refining their materials, and always thinking about how to make their footwear even more comfortable.

Growing Pains and Breakthroughs

Like any small business, Hari Mari faced moments of doubt. "There were days when we wondered if we'd make it through," Lila admitted. "Everything has been a challenge."

But persistence paid off. Over the years, Hari Mari expanded its product line, built strong community ties, and celebrated key milestones:

One of the Stewarts' favorite moments? Spotting Hari Mari gear out in the world. "We love it when we're out and see people wearing our flip flops, hats, or shirts," they said. "That's something we'll never get tired of."

Looking Ahead: Big Dreams for the Future

As they celebrate 13 years of growth, Hari Mari’s founders are excited for what’s next. "When I think about the future, I think about how cool it would be to one day say Hari Mari is a household name," Lila shared.

For them, it's never been about chasing revenue or store counts. "We just want to make the best flip flop. When people talk about the best flip flops out there, we want Hari Mari to be the name that comes to mind."
